Are dogs more work than kids?
Asked: Are dogs more work than kids?
We want a dog, but I'm afraid. having kids was easy for me, but the idea of a dog makes me nervous – isn't it, like three times more difficult? It would be like the baby stage all day every day for, like 5 or more years, wouldn't it?at least kids learn quickly and grow up. By two years old they're well behaved house trained and you can communicate with them. But what do you do about a dog?7 years down the road and they're still 100% dependent 24/7 – aren't they?
(most of the dogs I have known were annoying. As a guest at other ppl's houses the dogs running around, jumping up, won't leave you alone, every time you go to get up the dog's in your pathway and won't move, I can't imagine living like that!Do they ever mellow out? Is there ever a time when dogs act like all the house pets you see on TV – loyal members of the family well behaved and not annoyingly always in your way and begging for food?
I mean I am ready for the walking, the training, the "accidents", the bathing and teeth/fur care, but I don't know that I could handle the getting into stuff/being in my way relentlessly. I have a 1 and a 3 yo and it's bad enough always stepping o one of them as i try to walk through the house, let alone a dog as well. At least with them I know they'll grow out of it in a few years.
Having a dog is great! I have 5 of my own, more dogs than people in the family. You just have to train it well, and it shouldnt be a hastle. Good luck!
