What would be the best dog breed for my cousin?
Asked: What would be the best dog breed for my cousin?
My older cousin has depression, social anxiety and aspergers. She loves dogs but she hasnt found the right one yet. I was wonderwhat smaller or medium sized breed would be a good companion for her. Needs to be easy to potty train and loving. Not shy and mean.

Want to buy the perfect dog breed?
Asked: Want to buy the perfect dog breed?
Please do not put links to dog selectors, because I have already try that. I want choices, thank you.
VERY IMPORTANT: I have a heart disease, so this is probably the most important thing I want in a dog: It is not aggressive, but it must be somewhat protective when it needs to be. I don't really need another problem in my health, do I?
NOT:
PUG
TOY FOX TERRIER
HUSKY
(Not that I don't like them, it's just that it's on my top 5 list that I obviously have not completed yet)
Okay, so here they are:
Important-
Easy to pick up and play around with, can sit in lap of about a 5 ft teen
Doesn't need weekly grooming
Short but not too short fur (NOT THE HAIRY TYPES PLEASE)
Protective but not necessarily a guard dog
Fun to play with
Somewhat cute (I don't really like V-shaped ears and long but skinny type of dogs)
Not aggressive but also not too cowardly
Not too picky about food
Okay with hot weather
Intelligent, easily learn tricks
Preferred but not really priority-
Long lifetime span
Likes swimming
Immune to cold weather
Doesn't bark too much when a stranger passes by house
I know it's kinda very very specific but you know, I'd like maybe the best three, or maybe the "bestest" choice, that's better. Thank you so much!

Can you guess my dog’s breed?
Asked: Can you guess my dog’s breed?
I have a 3-year-old 65 pound mutt, but I can't think of what breeds he might have in him.Could you help me?
He is about 18 inches tall at the shoulder, so very broad and squat physique. He has large ears that hang down, not long like a basset hounds, but like a laborador's. Moderately squat muzzle, not long like a fox hound's or short like a pit bul's. His coat is tri colored, black on top, white on the bottom with tan parts in between, though it is dusted with gray around his face.Coat is shaggy, but it's not hair-like like a poodle's or a bearded collie, it's very thick, with a coarse outer layer, thick under coat, he is a moderate shedder.
He howls when ever he hears ambulances and the tornado siren. His bark is almost a "baying" like bark, howl like, but still very gruff. He is very expressive vocally when trying to communicate with us.
His personality is fairly dominant around other dogs, and very much so with children, but he's friendly and loves everyone, dog and human. He is sometimes weary of people entering our house though. He was very easy to train.
Any ideas.

What’s your worst dog breed?
Asked: What’s your worst dog breed?
Just curious; mine are westies (They're stubby, yap a lot and the people who own them rarely ever correct their behavior. Also, because they are white, when they get weepy eyes it stains the fur around and makes them look ill. They often have skin problems too. I love dogs and I'm not saying I would be mean to one, but I would never own one by first choice). I'd also say some spaniels as they are often emotionally insecure and have separation anxiety, sharp pei's due to the sores they get, and I find Dalmatians and huskies pretty worrying to be around as they're high energy and become aggressive due to not being walked enough. And finally (though there's probably lots more) Basset Hounds – droopy eyes, bunch of health problems, strong sense of smell that makes them constantly pull, and pretty much nothing likeable about them apart from maybe their personality.

What dog breed suits me?
Asked: What dog breed suits me?
Some of you may have seen/answered my exact same question that i deleted because i did not add some information that i needed. You can always answer again if you like
So i live in an apartment, ( 3 rooms), and i'm in the city. I would like an energetic dog but not a dog that doesn't really know when to stop e.g border collie, so basically i would not want a couch potato.
I don't really want any small, yappy dogs please, maybe something in the size category medium/large, but it dosen't have to be.
I am able to excercise the dog regularly, and for quite a long while (well, up to how much the dog breed needs in general), but like i said, no dogs that won't know how to chill
I'm pretty active outside, but inside i just sit at my laptop.
Oh, and i would love a breed that is intelligent and learns easily.
(plz don't mention german shepherds or huskies)
I was thinking a rough collie, what do you guys think?

Did anyone own a maltese who was there when they had a newborn baby?
Asked: Did anyone own a maltese who was there when they had a newborn baby?
My husband and I are planning to adopt a puppy. We do not have a kid now but plan to have one in the next 1.5 – 2 years. I have few questions:
1. Is this a good time to buy a puppy? We did not want to wait until I get pregnant and hence planning this well in advance.
2. We have been looking at the dog breed. Both of us have never owned a dog earlier. As we stay in a cozy townhome with a very small fenced front yard and want a minimal shedding dog, we are planning on getting a maltese puppy. Is this a good choice or are there more options. We considered a lot of small dog breed?
3. Does anyone have experience with introducing maltese or similar small dog breed to their newborn.
4. How are maltese or small dog breed with babies and kids?
Thank you all for your response in advance!

Which protection dog(breed) should I buy?
Asked: Which protection dog(breed) should I buy?
My parents just bought a big house with a very large compound. I already have a Japanese spitz and a boxer. My father's thinking of getting a good watch dog for protection but which one would be the best. I'm confused between a German shepherd and a Tibetan mastiff. Any other dog breeds would be warmly welcomed.
Thanks.

what is the right dog for me?
Asked: what is the right dog for me?
So, I was what the right dog breed for me is. I had a doberman and was pretty successful, but now we'd like to switch breeds. I want a larger dog. I have a large yard to play with it, and I'm willing to excercise it for an hour or maybe more a day, whether it's a run, fetch, or something of that nature. Iwas looking at Australian Shepherds or Australian cattle dogs, but they require herding jobs, something I can't offer. The Dogo Argentino is pretty cool as well. I DON'T want: German Shepherds,, Poodles,(really, I don't like terriers or curly haired dogs either) or Dalmatians. Also, I have to attend school for several hours in the morning, but I will definitely spend the rest of my day with the dog. Any ideas? Thanks.

Pomeranian versus Yorkshire Terrier versus Maltese?
Asked: Pomeranian versus Yorkshire Terrier versus Maltese?
I would really appreciate some insightful responses on which dog breed is best for me and my husband.
I've owned a Maltipoo for 14 years (as well as many other pets) so I am somewhat experienced. My dog passed away a few years ago and I feel I'm ready for another little companion. I've been researching different breeds and have tried to narrow the list down based on numerous criteria. Due to our current situation, we're set on owning a small dog, because we live in an apartment, and fly twice a year (though we go to a vacation home where the dog would have plenty of room to run), which means we want a dog that can travel in cabin with us (has to be under 5kgs/10lbs). He likes the Pomeranian because he thinks its active personality would make it a good compromise between a lap dog and a"real dog". My mother has recommended a Yorkie and I like the Maltese due to my first dog, though I know they can be very sensitive and hard to housebreak (not ideal for apartments). My husband works full time, and soon, so will I, which means the dog will be alone approx. 8-9 hrs a day. I am concerned because I will be starting work after grad school and don't want a dog that suffers from separation anxiety or will be excessively vocal. I would like to get the puppy soon, to be able to be home full-time until he/she is capable of being left alone during the day. We are homebodies, so the rest of the day will be spent with the dog, and we will devote time to daily walks and grooming. We are not considering starting a family anytime soon (if ever), so children are not something that affects our choice.
My ideal dog will be:
Intelligent
Independent
Easily trained
Not overly vocal (barking consistently without reason)
Fairly easy to groom (daily brushing)
Affectionate & lively, and likes to relax with his/her owners
So, whomever has experience with the aforementioned breeds (or similar breeds), can you recommend which one would suit our profile best? Thanks!
P.s. Please do not suggest adoption…we've looked into it, but the requirements do not match any of the dogs we've found, so we are focused on researching reputable breeders.

Should Get a Pomeranian?
Asked: Should Get a Pomeranian?
So im getting a dog and i cant decide either to get a pom or a different breed. live in a big house with a large fenced in yard and a small pool. wanted to know if they would be easy to train (house breaing, not barking, etc) , if they are good with kids, people, and other pets, how much extrasice it needs, and how much it would cost to take care of one.
