What would be an awesome pet?
Emma Asked: What would be an awesome pet?
I have a dog, two cats, two fish and a rabbit. I want an exotic pet that is legal in Victoria and does NOT require a license. It has to be kind of cheap and easy to find.

Is this normal what my teacher is doing? Please help!?
Emma Asked: Is this normal what my teacher is doing? Please help!?
I'm 16 and in high school. Well I can't remember when it really started, but I do remember the first major incident. I was going to class one day and he was standing in the doorway and he was talking to this other person and I just slipped in right by him and randomly he just called me out and asked me "Why are you always dogging me?" and I just remembered turning around shocked and saying in this surprised way "No, I don't", but I didn't look into it at the time or thought anything of it because I didn't expect to be asked that question. Then there was this other incident where I got a new hairstyle and my friend liked it, and me and her were walking to class in the hallway and there he was standing by the door, and was looking another direction when I walked by him and my friend called out and said, "Hey, look at Emma's new hairstyle!" and right while I was walking through the door he just peeked in right at me randomly and he said something along the lines like "Look at you all done up! You look really pretty" "I like it". You should have seen the way he did it. It was very abrupt, quick and invasive a little. I just remember feeling really shy and embarrassed and I started blushing cause at that time I wasn't use to doing my hair all the time and trying to look cute. Then after class was over I'm not sure if my friend was teasing or being serious, but she told me how he was staring at me the whole time during class and started telling me and some people we knew how this guy has been flirting with me and hitting on me and that he likes me. I remember one day I didn't show up to school and when I came back he started asking me "What happened to me and why I didn't come to school last week Friday?" and before I could respond he says, "What you thought I wouldn't notice?" Then there was this one time me and friends were leaving school to go home and we ran into him in the hallway and he was wearing this red hat and I remember him taking it off the MINUTE he saw me and just when we were walking by him my friend said hi and he just ignored her and said to me "Goodnight, Emma" in a flirty kind of voice What's this guys deal? There were more incidents, but I can't remember then now, and it wasn't an everyday thing.
I am a very quiet and shy person and one day when I was walking into class He said "Good morning to me and I guess he didn't hear me and he stopped me and said "Why can't you ever say hi to me? Are you a mute or something? I remember feeling offended, but brushed it off and said "Good morning to him, and he told me "Finally! Now we're getting somewhere." Funny thing is the other students ignore him too, but he doesn't do that to them EVER. What's going on? Does he like me or something or is he being nice? I don't know how to feel right now.

Emma Asked: Home cooked dog food recipes?
Just interested since my Mum cooked for my dog today saying its ultimate nutrition for him.
Here is the recipe she used:
Cooked chopped chicken
Steamed carrots
Brown rice
Ground egg shells (for calcium)
A splash of peanut butter (for taste she says)
Is that a decent recipe and have you got any recipes of your own?

Emma Asked: Does he like me or not? I like him..?

We started talking on facebook then met up at a few shows and this went on for 3 months now we text each other.
When I put a status on facebook that's not myself if I'm upset or something he will either facebook message me or text me and always asks if I'm ok and I'm the same as him and we always add a kiss on the end but that's normal anywy..
We talk a LOT sometimes for 5 hours through texting hes 19 I'm 17, today he asks me if I'm ok and if I wanted to talk about what's wrong info and we get talking and he keps asking if I'm at certian shows some I am some i'm not and he tries to get me to the same ones as him, then he started adding two kisses to the end of his texts so I did to and I've not known him do that before he is so sweet to talk to we walk the dogs together and are going to run together too does he like me maybe? This is the basic outline of the story not the whole thug that would take to long haha. Does he like me, is there a chance for us? We both open up to each other a lot we know we can trust each other too.

What are the causes of pet overpopulation?
Emma Asked: What are the causes of pet overpopulation?
Okay, I know most people will respond to this question by saying something like: "because of all the irresponsible, morally repugnant MORONS who don't spay/neuter their pets!!!" But think about it, up until the 1960s, NOBODY spayed/neutered their pets. So for all these thousands and thousands of years, cats and dogs were allowed to be as promiscuous and prolific as they pleased, and seemingly no one ever really considered this to be a problem. I'm sure that stray animals (and their offspring) have been present in every city/town/village since the beginning of civilization, so why has it only been in the last century that we've come consider them a problem?
I remember reading an article about (human) world population where one of the experts explained that the tremendous (human) population growth during the last several centuries was "not because people started multiplying like rabbits, but because they stopped dropping like flies." So is the same true for dogs and cats? Is pet overpopulation largely due to the fact that the average dog or cat's life expectancy is considerably longer than it used to be?
When my mom was growing up, she had dozens and dozens of cats. None of them were fixed (that was practically unheard of) and, except for a couple of times when a tom got into a particularly bad fight, the only time they went to the vet was for their yearly rabies shot. A couple got run over by a car, but on average they would live 5-7 years. She says she never remembers any of them being visibly sick- usually they would just start acting strange and a few days later they would run off (presumably to die).
Now, the idea of not regularly taking your pet to vet seems tantamount to child abuse, and it's not uncommon for dogs and cats to live well into their teens and sometimes even into their twenty's. Obviously improving animals' health is a GOOD thing- I know I love my pets and want them to live for a long time! But at the same time, I can't help but suspect that the real reason so many animals are being euthanized at animal shelters is not because of all the irresponsible pet owners who don't spay/neuter their pets, but because of all the good pet owners (like myself) who vaccinate their pets and do everything they can to give them the best medical care.
I've also been thinking about the animal shelters themselves. When exactly did they come into existence? Now, I'm a HUGE supporter of animal shelters- I've been a volunteer at several and I have tremendous respect for the work they do. But sometimes I wonder if all of the animals (especially the cats) who are there need to be. At the restaurant I used to work at, there was a whole colony of stray cats who lived in the parking lot. They were very skittish so you couldn't get close to them, but they had plenty food from the dumpsters and none of them ever looked sick or emaciated. Also, at the apartments where I live, there are a ton of stray cats. However, most of them are pretty friendly, and a lot of residents feed them. Again, they all appear to be reasonably healthy, happy, and well-fed (some of them are practically fat!).
So should these homeless cats be in an animal shelter? It seems ridiculous that anyone would feel the need to "rescue" one of these cats by taking them to a shelter where they'll spend all of their time in a cage and potentially be killed. I know a lot of people would point out that even if cats seemingly can take care of themselves, the average life expectancy for one living on the street is 2 years. But then I think, well butterflies only live for 2 weeks, so how long are animals supposed to live anyway? When it comes to the quality and quantity of our pets lives, what should be our expectations? My grandparents would think that its absurd that I brush my pets teeth; are my grandchildren going to be taking their pets to the orthodontist to be fitted for braces?
